South Korean footballer Hwang Ui-Jo, who plays for Alanyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig, is facing a four-year prison sentence for secretly recording a sexual encounter with his former partner.
According to French media, Hwang Ui-Jo, the 32-year-old South Korean international currently playing for Alanyaspor, has been accused of filming sexual encounters with his ex-partner without her consent.
A report by L’Équipe claims that Hwang’s former partner filed a legal complaint after discovering that videos of their encounters had been shared on social media platforms and various websites in South Korea.
During the hearing at the Seoul Central District Court, prosecutors requested a four-year prison sentence for Hwang, accusing him of violating laws related to sexual offenses.
Initial Denial, Then Confession
Although Hwang initially denied the charges, he later admitted to his actions on the first day of the trial and apologized to his former partner for his behavior.
Sister-in-Law Also Facing Jail Time for Sharing the Videos
Hwang’s apology was not accepted by his former partner, who alleged that the videos were shared on social media and other sites as an act of revenge. Prosecutors also sought a four-year prison sentence for Hwang’s sister-in-law, who was accused of distributing the footage. She has since been sentenced to three years in prison for her involvement.
Questions About Genuine Remorse
A statement from the prosecution shared with the media expressed skepticism about Hwang’s remorse: “One of the victims refused to negotiate and demanded a severe penalty. While Hwang has now admitted the charges, his initial denials raise doubts about whether he is truly remorseful.”
