Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was forced to cancel his planned trip to Russia after hitting his head in his kitchen.
The 78-year-old president was taken to the Sirio-Libanes Hospital in the capital, Brasilia, following a blow to the back of his head.
After examinations at the hospital, Lula da Silva’s doctor advised against traveling.
A statement from the Brazilian presidency announced that Lula da Silva would participate in the BRICS Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to take place in Kazan from October 22-24, via video conference.

BRICS is an international forum consisting of countries that account for over 40% of the world’s population and more than 30% of global GDP. The group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, meets annually to discuss global issues and mutual cooperation.
In recent years, BRICS has expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United ArabE mirates.
