Walmart to Open Office in Turkey, Says AmCham Turkey Chair

Tankut Turnaoğlu, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) , announced that , which manages about 10-15% of the U.S. retail sector, will open an office in Turkey.

The AmChams Eurasia Economic Summit, organized by the American chambers of commerce in Turkey, Greece, and Bulgaria, brought together government officials, state development agencies, business leaders, and investors in Istanbul to promote economic cooperation and business partnerships in the region.

Turnaoğlu highlighted the significant increase in exports from Turkey to the U.S., noting a strong recent demand for products in sectors such as automotive, machinery, textiles, chemical products, and furniture.

“Walmart to Begin Sourcing from Turkey”

Turnaoğlu stated that Walmart would start sourcing products from Turkey, adding, “Furniture and frozen food are among the areas where they see Turkey as a supply hub.”

He also emphasized that the U.S. is Turkey’s second-largest market, with Turkish Airlines playing a significant role in boosting trade between the two countries. He pointed out that Turkish Airlines currently flies to 14 cities in the U.S. and took advantage of the pandemic to become one of the world’s largest cargo companies.

Turnaoğlu concluded by stating that Turkish Airlines has significantly advanced trade between Turkey and the U.S., with half of all e-exports going to America, underscoring the vital support provided by air freight in this regard.
